Do you have problems on XP? Are they critical?

http://www.atozed.com/intraweb/blog/20080719.aspx

As usual - DON'T PANIC. I'm just investigating at this stage, but I need to
know how many users we have using Delphi 5 and C++ Builder 5.

I've received reports from many users that Delphi 5 itself has many issues
on Windows XP. I'm in the process of confirming this. But if this is the
case, that would lead me to believe that in 2008 that there are very few
users still remaining in Delphi 5 or C++ Builder 5 if they have such issues
requiring work arounds on Windows XP. However there are still a few people
developing on Windows 2000 on which they run fine.

If there are no users left, in the future I would like to eliminate Delphi 5
and C++ Builder 5 from our list. In truth, Delphi 5 really does not consume
many resources as it is nearly compatible with Delphi 6. C++ Builder 5 can
cause issues at times. But eliminating them would allow us to shrink the
size of our install and reduce the complexity a bit of our build process.

Personally I upgraded from BCB5 to BCB6 a few weeks after I upgraded
from Windows ME to Windows XP. For one reason: BCB5 never worked under
XP for me, it would crash at startup. I didn't bother much with it since
I was to upgrade anyway but had resisted for some time.

I'm still running BCB5 and it's on an XP machine - however I'm only running it
in order to support legacy applications that were not worth porting TO BCB6.
Those applications are STILL live in the field and I doubt they will ever
change now - we put W2k on machines when they brake down since they don't need
the bloat of XP to run, but are quite happy to do so if needs be. There is no
serious development work being done on BCB5.

The rest of the code base is STILL on BCB6 which runs fine.

Bottom line - all new development is now web based since there is no reason to
deploy client applications to machines. In the past a few clients were the
norm, and deployment was easy, now we can be talking hundreds on a site.

BCB6 is fine for the hardware elements that are still required, and those are
restricted to machines that have trouble running XP ( so vista is irrelevant
;) ) - Microsoft need to consider that many of their customers are still using
machines with 256Mb of memory on which a browser runs fine so there is no
logical reason to waste a fortune on upgrading hardware even for XP! THEY are
making a good case for Linux on the desk top :)

I use BCB5 in my XP SP3, and it work perfectly in XP (SP0, SP1, SP2, and
SP3).
Some problem starting BCB5 is due to external expert or VCL bad writted.

We (10 users) still use BCB5 on XPSP2/3 & Vista for all of our applications. We
decided to wait for BDS2009+SP4 after some tests with BDS2006/7 - refer QC and
you'll find the reasons.

I have CB5 installed on WinXP Pro SP2, and have had no 'real' problems
with it. However, since converting to CDS2007, I have had little need
for CB5 (other than the obvious one of loading it up to access the
'help'). I like the operation of the debugger better in CDS2007, but
have other issues with it -- I think from a stability standpoint it is
somewhat better, but from an ergonomic standpoint I'm still on the fence.

I have a huge range of products developed in BCB5, and are likely to stay
there for quite some time. BCB5 support is extremely important to us.

I also still use BCB5 on WinXp machines with no major problems at all.
Have some minor inconveniences, but think its more BCB5 related than XP
related, and they are easily dealt with.

CB5 works on all platforms I've tried. Also, the executables it produces,
work on all Windows platforms except Win 3.1 and less. So, CB5 wins from Win
95 through to Windows 2008 Server 64-bit. The only drawback is that it
cannot produce 64-bit executables, but there is not a lot of demand for
those yet.

I still use BCB5 for some applications. I've never had a problem under XP
Pro. I keep my system patched so I'm on SP3.

I experimented with KbmMW and Indy 9 in BCB5. I had it working but I did not
do any serious development.
